1973, and for various contractual reasons Mercury Records decide it’s already time to catalogue Rod Stewart’s greatest.

This was four years before the horror of “Sailing” (allegedly) kept “God Save The Queen” off the Number One spot pop-pickers, and Rod was quite the bar-room rock n’ rolling hard drinkin’ cock o’ the walk.

Still, no need for this frankly terrifying ‘Rod-in-a-glass’ special effect on the whisky-tumbler-shaped sleeve…..
