I was going for something different with this mix from April 2007, aimed at home listening rather than the dancefloor. I used tracks from the 80s, 90s and 00s, some with acapellas and spoken word sprinkles on the top. My intention was to create a mood using a variety of styles and tempos, meaning not everything was suitable for beatmixing – there are effects-treated segments from a 1971 ‘BBC Sound Effects’ LP used as transitions in places. Everything was on vinyl and two turntables so it took some planning to get it down in a single live take…with only one false start, if my memory is reliable…
